Corgi Shedding Guide: Tips to Reduce Fur and Manage Grooming

They say Corgis shed twice a year… for six months at a time 😆. And there’s some truth to that! Corgis have an incredibly thick undercoat, which means there’s always a ton of fur at home. Drying a Corgi completely takes over an hour with a professional dryer.

The First Shedding Stage – Denial 😅

During shedding season, you can literally pluck out chunks of fur just by pinching your pup!

At first, I was shocked by the amount of fur everywhere, but you get used to it pretty quickly. And honestly, the joy these smiley little dogs bring far outweighs the downsides—of which, to be fair, there aren’t that many!

We’ve found a few ways to deal with shedding, and I’ll share them with you:

  • Vacuuming – our best friend! An obvious solution. If you vacuum twice a day, you won’t even notice the fur. I don’t use this method, though—I’m way too lazy for that 😅.
  • Robot vacuum – Our Corgi, Asti, reacts aggressively to a regular vacuum, so introducing a self-moving “friend” would probably drive her insane. But if your Corgi is more chill, this could be a great solution!
  • Brushing – We use a simple comb. We don’t recommend a Furminator since it can damage the coat. We also don’t believe in those glove brushes, but a regular comb works wonders on the undercoat.

  • Grooming – The most effective solution during shedding season! We don’t shave Asti, just give her a good wash and dry. The powerful dryer blows out all the loose fur, speeding up the shedding process. After that, all that’s left is daily brushing—and way less fur in the house 😅.

We even thought about getting a professional dryer at home. But after witnessing a grooming session, I quickly changed my mind. It’s like standing in a fur-filled fog! Unless you’re prepared for a deep cleaning session afterward, it’s easier to just take your fluffball to a grooming salon.

So, that’s how we fight the fur battle in everyday life!

The Final Verdict: Do Corgis Shed a Lot?

YES. A LOT 😅. If you’re planning to get a Corgi, be prepared for constant cleaning. Otherwise, get ready to eat, sleep, and live covered in fur 😂.
